Why I’m trying UltraShape

This blog post is part of a paid SocialMoms and UltraShape blogging program. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.

Have you guys ever heard that commercial on the radio that promises to melt your belly fat during your lunch hour with a non-invasive procedure and no downtime? Every time it comes on, I mentally jot down the number for a rainy day.

Or my 40th birthday.

In the last year and an half I’ve made some major changes. I worked with a food counselor to change the way I eat and started working out six days a week. I incorporated yoga and spin into my life, I do interval training 3-4 days a week and I started running. I’d love to say I did it for health, or to be an inspiration to my children, but the truth is I just did it to look better in clothes. But a year and a half of non-stop planking and crunches and I still really hate my stomach.

I finally decided to go for it. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be trying out UltraShape, an FDA-cleared treatment that uses ultrasound technology to break down the stubborn fat around the belly area. The ultrasound causes the fat cells to rupture, releasing the fatty substance and your body breaks it down usually without pain or discomfort. Some people see results as quickly as two weeks after the first procedure.

Honestly, I was more scared to post my “before” pictures than I am about the procedure. So…here goes.

Naturally I have some basic questions for Dr. Horn before the procedure. Here’s what I know, so far:

What the hell is Ultrashape?  UltraShape is the first and only FDA-cleared, non-invasive body-shaping procedure that uses focused, pulsed ultrasound to permanently destroy fat cells around the mid-section of the body

How does it work? UltraShape delivers ultrasound energy directly into the stubborn fat below the skin’s surface. Pulsed ultrasound waves cause fat cells to rupture (without heating) releasing the fatty substance inside. The body breaks down (or processes) the destroyed fat cells, just like it breaks down other fat. The waste is then eliminated naturally.

Is it really safe?  UltraShape has been shown to be safe in extensive clinical trials, and over 300,000 treatments have been performed worldwide. It is FDA cleared for selective, non-invasive fat destruction in the abdominal region

How do I maintain the results? For best results, maintaining a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise is recommended. UltraShape is not recommended for major weight loss.

Who is UltraShape for? UltraShape is ideal for people with stubborn fat or genetically acquired problem areas around their mid-section.

When can I expect results? Many people reported seeing results as early as 2 weeks after their first treatment, but a patient should expect to see the best results after a series of 3 treatments, 2 weeks apart

What does it feel like?  Most people report a comfortable experience and side effects are extremely rare. There is no soreness or numbness after treatment. Most will experience little to no pain, but individual results will vary.

Before I do this, I want to hear your questions about UltraShape? What would you ask before trying UltraShape? Have you ever done UltraShape? What was your impression?

I’ll update next week with my impressions and results, plus what to really expect in your first UltraShape treatment.

I think you look great, but I definitely understand how frustrating it is when fitness doesn’t spot-train away stubborn soft spots! My mom needed knee surgery from running so much to target saddlebags and inner-knee fat – and finally she got fed up and did a small liposuction procedure to much success and relief. I’m excited to hear about your experience! Now if only I could use this on my booty.

Are you kidding — you look so great you don’t need that! But, if it makes you happy, go for it! Can’t wait to hear results!

Wait, what? Those are your BEFORE shots? You don’t have any belly fat – what’s it going to do? You’re so cute and have such good taste – the shorts are “befores” too right? 😉

BAhahah. Yes. Those shorts NEVER leave the house 🙂

Dana you are a beautiful and very thin woman! That tiny bit of abdominal “fat” is there to protect your organs! Don’t nuke it!!!
