Bachelor Fashion: Lesley Murphy exclusive interview

lesley-murphy-bachelorShe set a world record for the longest onscreen kiss, but when she failed to utter those three little words, Sean Lowe sent Bachelorette Lesley Murphy and her flawless wardrobe back to DC. Now that she’s settled back into life, she’s trading flirty tweets with Chris Bukowski and, you know, attending the inaugural ball. But bachelor fashion favorite, Lesley Murphy, took a few moments to talk fashion exclusively with Possessionista.

Possessionista: How much of what you wore did you already own? How much shopping did you do?

LM: I owned probably 85% of what I wore on the show. I didn’t do an overwhelming amount of shopping for it to be honest. I love fashion to begin with, so I collect different pieces when I stumble upon great finds. I borrowed a few dresses from friends, but as I said, I don’t hate my own wardrobe so I’m glad America got a chance to see some of it! From what I can tell, they loved it too!

Possessionista: How many suitcases did you bring?
LM: I brought 4 suitcases. Some people may automatically label me as a diva upon reading that, but think about it-you have to be able to take on whatever weather you may be faced with on the show. You could be going anywhere from exotic beaches to the freezing slopes of Switzerland-who really knows? Always be on the ready. I’m just now a professional traveler. I know how to stack suitcases. Maybe I’ll put that on my resume.

Possessionista: What was your fashion strategy? Did you save your favorite dresses or did you wear them early?
LM: I tried to plan out what I was going to wear for each rose ceremony based on location and weather. You never really know how long you may be there, but I went in confident with the intentions of staying for a long while. I wore a few favorites in the very beginning to catch his attention, while saving a few for further down the road. I obviously saved beach dresses for possible tropical locations, and others for what may work in cold weather environments. In the end, I think each planned outfit worked well for that time period/activity.

lesley-murphy-dressPossessionista: What was your favorite Bachelor fashion moment?
LM:  really loved the pink skirt I wore on my second one-on-one with Sean in St. Croix. It worked perfect in a beach setting and flowed so elegantly in the sunlight! I also loved my Catherine Deane dress from the very first night. It was so iconic, and I can’t seem to stop wearing it to each black tie event that comes up…it’s just so stunning! Also, I’ve got to bring up the chaps here from the Harlequin photo shoot here. Not a Tierrable outfit either…albeit VERY uncomfortable!

Possessionista: Did you ever look back and wish you could do one of your outfits over?
LM: I really don’t regret anything I wore on the show. Like I said, most of the clothes I wore are pieces I’ve acquired myself. I love fashion and pick most of that out based on my taste and what how I want to express myself. The only thing I can come up with was how SHORT my lace pink BCBG dress was during the longest on screen kiss. If I knew I’d have my arms up for 3 1/2 minutes, I would’ve worn something with a little more length!!

Possessionista:  Besides you (obvi) who was best dressed?
LM: I loved Sarah’s taste in dresses and jewelry. I had some dress envy from Robyn and Amanda as well. Definite shoe envy from Selma…that girl needed a closet solely for her shoes.

Possessionista: Who needed the most help?
LM: Tierra and I couldn’t disagree more in the fashion department. The sequins and the loud accessories…I’m talking opposite ends of the spectrum.

Possessionista: Did you ever share clothes with any of the other ladies? Who?
LM: Catherine and I shared bikinis and dresses and accessories, you name it…besties share all.

Possessionista:  What did you have in your suitlesley-murphycase that we never got to see?
LM:  had a few long maxi dresses that never saw the sunlight unfortunately. I have a dress by Two Birds that I adore-you can wrap it 15 different ways, and it looks like a brand new dress every time! It’s fun, flirty, and classy all at the same time.

Possessionista: Who are your favorite Bachelorette fashionistas from seasons past?
LM: I love Jillian Harris’ style. It’s so classic with pops of color and just the right accessories to make you want it on your body right then and there.

Ahh! She’s my favorite. I loved her personality and her style! Her first rose ceremony was most def one of the best of the bunch. So classic!

  2. Different taste from Tierra in accessories since her pieces were loud? Ha, LM, on the contrary: The maxmara purple chain necklace (accessory) you chose was pretty loud/standout too (but great).

  3. nz designers clothing says:

For a bold scenes or poses one need lots of effort and guts to do that and she is bold enough to do that.I must say she is a great actress.

  4. Thanks for doing this interview Dana! Lesley was my fave–both to win and also fashion-wise. Her favorite piece was the pink skirt from ST Croix, that I also bought after she wore it! Great interview, thanks so much!

    • where did you buy it? can’t find it in that shade anywhere! or a similar.

      • I bought it on Naked Wardrobe, but I think they may have sold out by now…there was also a similar on Threadscene that Dana listed, and I saw a similar on Forever 21 as well. Again not sure if they’re still available bc I shopped a week ago, but it’s worth a try! :)

        • Also Dana listed that there was a similar on Willow & James (look it up on Facebook) for $42, maybe they’re still available? Similar to the Zara one (that’s the actual that Lesley wore).

  5. Great interview. I loved Lesley from the start for her fashion savvy and fun personality!

  6. Lesley was my favorite. She came across as a genuine sweet girl. Loved her fashion and sense of humor.

  7. She wasn’t my fashion favorite, but I really liked her! I do think it’s weird to share bikinis, that’s like sharing underwear (IMO)!

  8. I loved Lesley from the get go. But Lindsay was my favorite this season I would of loved to see Lesley’s family and her home. She is from Arkansas I am not from there or Fort Leanard Wood but I am from Missouri. Is is pretty here. 9. Darcy heindel says:

I have loved watching the bachelor from the beginning. Mostly to check out what all the girls are wearing. I am definitely a fan of Lesley’s classic with a fun / hip twist wardrobe! I especially loved her white rainbow mix dress by foley and Corinna! I think it must be a couple seasons old because I can’t find it for sale any where on the Internet. Can anyone help me with additional search suggestions?
