It’s weird, but I know that some of you couldn’t care less about Ashley Hebert and JP Rosenbaum’s wedding.
But this weekend marked another wedding as well. The first ever mid-season episode of Royal Pains, where Ethan and Paige tied the knot in an anything but traditional wedding ceremony.
Instead of standing in front of their closest friends, family and the production team from ABC, the intimate wedding included dead butterflies, a fake ring, and a possibly concussed best man.
Talk about the most. dramatic. wedding. ever.
It was my first foray into Royal Pains – a show many of you have been asking me to cover for several seasons. Fortunately, costume designer Caroline Duncan (also of 666 Park Avenue) shared her Royal Pains fashion secrets with me.
According to Duncan, “Royal Pains style has always been about pushing fashion boundaries — mixing the whimsy of beachwear with the sophisticated tastes of a Hamptonite regular.” We see this in the contrast between Divya (Reshma Shetty’s) bold colors and sophisticated accessories, and Paige’s whimsical style.
Brooke D’Orsay (Paige) plays a fashion student and artist, with bold (and sometimes surprising) color choices.
Not surprising, some of the boldest looks from the Royal Pains wedding episode were Divya and Paige’s Vegas style – featuring both women in Vegas glamour (Divya in bold lace, and Paige in showstopping sequins with a feather embellished jacket I couldn’t stop thinking about.)
But like any wedding, “the cornerstone of the episode is Paige’s gorgeous Amsale wedding gown, which I gravitated to for its incredible grace — the movement of the chiffon set against a snowy backdrop makes Brooke D’Orsay look like a living snowflake.,” Duncan explained.
