Tonight Nashville fashion is as authentic as the music.
I know it because Hayden Pannetiere’s white denim corset from Nashville on ABC is a custom piece by local Nashville designer Ani & Ari.
Sisters originally from Colorado, Danielle (the “ani” part) is an artist and sculptor who learned corset making while studying at the Art Institute in Chicago. Her sister Ariel (the “ari” part) is a former pro-snowboarder.
The Nashville sisters chatted exclusively with Possessionista about how they made Hayden’s white denim jeweled corset for tonight’s episode of Nashville, what it’s like to dress Carrie Underwood and whether or not Nashville on ABC is accurate
Possessionista: How did you end up having your corset on Nashville?
A&A: It’s a funny story. There’s a local designer named Manuel who was making a jacket for Connie Britton’s character. We had a corset and costume designer Susie De Santo loved it. She showed us these jeweled True Religion shorts and we came up with some designs for Hayden’s character.
Possessionista: What was the fitting like?
A&A: Every fitting is different. For part of it Hayden was in New York. Susie loved the idea of making it “matchy” for the music video. So we came up with the idea of doing it in white denim. We picked out the fabric, the thread and we special ordered the rhinestones.
Possessionista: Besides Nashville fashion, you’ve designed for real country stars, too. Like who?
A&A: We did a vegan corset for Carrie Underwood. Lots of times when we do faux leather we use furniture upholstery. It gives it that same texture and leather look.
Possessionista: Did you watch Nashville? As someone who lives in Nashville, how accurate is the show’s style?
A&A: It’s accurate. A lot of it was shot here in Nashville. And the Grand Ole Oprey, the Bluebird? Anyone who’s been to Nashville knows that’s what it looks like. Also, from what I hear, it’s pretty much what the music industry is like, too.

What a beautiful corset. If I could afford it, I’d be asking to have one made immediately. They really did a great job.
