Jenna Burke, the blogess from New York is this season’s Bachelor breakout star. The brunette beauty dished about being a crybaby on national television, owning the crazy, and why Michelle Money isn’t always right.
Say what you will about the neurotically adorable Jenna, but I’d be happy to share a tampon with her.
Not to mention my therapist’s number.
Possessionista: You had some of the best style on the show – where are your favorite places to shop?
JB: Thank you, thank you! I’m a huge vintage shopper. Some of my best pieces come from vintage stores and thrift shops. I love digging for those hidden gems because I don’t like wearing what everyone else is wearing. If I had a fat wallet, I would buy everything at DVF, Haute Hippie, Michael Kors, Tory Burch and Phillip Lim. I’ll splurge here and there but in real life, I usually shop at Urban Outfitters, J. Crew, Zara, Madewell and Forever 21. I also spend a lot of time discovering new boutiques and vintage stores in Brooklyn.
So in a nut shell, my style is simplistic and then I like to accessorize the hell out of the outfit!
Possessionista: What was your favorite outfit we never got to see. What was still in your suitcase?
JB: I’m actually getting sad right now! I had 3 suitcases full of my best outfits, jewels and shoes. Bummer. Maybe that’s why I was crying so much when I didn’t get a rose?? Kiiiidddinggg. One night, we were just laying around and I was tired of talking about love so I laid out all my dresses and jewelry. We had a little fashion roundtable going on. My all time favorite outfit that I didn’t get to wear was an outfit I was planning on wearing for a one-on-one date. The outfit consisted of a dark pair of gold sequin shorts, an oversized white blouse, a vintage roman medallion necklace and a pair of nude heels. I was hoping to wear it somewhere that exotic. Eh, I’ll wear it on my next vaca! Regarding other things in my suitcase, I had quite a few pieces from DVF. A LOT OF COLOR! I had a great romper and a couple of incredible Dolce & Gabbana dresses. And SOOOO much jewelry!!! My mom looked at my suitcase and called me nuts. Even though I wasn’t emotionally prepared, I was definitely prepared fashion wise;)
Possessionista: Michelle Money thinks your melt should have started higher, but I totally covet your ombre hair. What’s your hair secret?
JB: Michelle Money seems like she has a lot to say about everyone lol. But I don’t agree with everything she had to say. Maybe it’s an “LA vs NY” thing. I’m definitely a Michelle Money fan but I think ombre can be either soft and subtle like Rachel Bilson’s natural-looking locks, or play more progressive and dramatic. I can’t tell you how many people emailed me about where I got my hair done in the city. I guess it’s a New York thing! BUT, I do agree, I should have put a brush through my hair before the rose ceremony! My brush went missing. It just wasn’t a good night for me but I’m over it. Anyways! I don’t spend a lot of money on hair products. I’ve tested both expensive and non-expensive products, and I couldn’t tell the difference. I use a lot of Bed Head products. I don’t really like my hair curled so I go for more of that beach wave look. Those clampless curling irons are THE BEST invention! Possessionista: Okay, so spray tan or real deal?
JB: Would you believe me if I said real deal? They are actually spray-on products. I always use Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs for a medium glow and then I top it with Sally Hansen Airbrush shimmer to add a subtle shimmer. And I always make sure whatever bronzer I use on my face to make sure that it matches the color of my body. Other than that, that’s all I use. I’m naturally tan and have olive skin. It’s the Spanish in me!
Possessionista: Speaking of beauty, you sure do cry a lot. Best waterproof mascara?
JB: Haha, now this is the best and most important question! The best is definitely Benefit Bad Gal Waterproof Mascara. It’s $19 but well worth the price. I used to buy Maybelline but I only buy Benefit mascara now.
Possessionista: I got a few sneak peeks of your shoes. What are some of your favorite shoe brands? How many pairs of shoes did you bring to the Bachelor?
JB: I love clothes but I’m even more in love with shoes and accessories. My jewelry bag was insane which is why I had no choice but to carry it on the plane. I was told to just bring the basics for shoes since they won’t really be shown on camera too much. But that really didn’t stop me. There’s something about being in a great pair of heels that just makes you feel better. I probably brought around 7 pairs of heels, 5 pairs of flats, 1 pair of running shoes and a pair of brown boots (which I think everyone brought!). I can’t go anywhere without a classic pair of nude heels. First of all, they go with everything and they do a really great job of elongating the leg. My favorite pair of shoes I brought were these nude fringe heels, made by Colin Stuart. I actually wore them in the beginning of the cocktail party after the first group date.
Possessionista: You have a fashion blog, right? What’s it about?
JB: Yes, it’s more of a lifestyle blog. In no way am I self-proclaimed relationship expert. This totally got blown out of proportion. Why would I go on The Bachelor if I was? Or why would I have a breakdown on national television? But I do love talking about fashion, beauty, relationships, music, etc. Let’s be real, we all analyze everything. Everyone sure did with my actions, clothes and hair on the show. But since I like to write about it and am comfortable with it, I consider myself an “over-analyst.” I like to get deep about certain things. It’s all in good fun. I love just sitting around with friends and talking. I’m usually the one to instigate the topics so it’s a joke that people call me “The Over-Analyst.” But I think it’s quite an appropriate joke.
Possessionista: Any regrets? If you could do it all over would you have changed what you wore?
JB: No regrets on the show and no regrets on my outfits. I think I had a total of 3 outfits? I just wish I would have gotten to show more of my style but I’m so happy I was sent home. Clearly, I wasn’t at the place in my life for this kind of thing. A lot of things were going on that I chose to openly talk about and there are other things I still would like to remain private. I guess I’ll just have to wear a sick dress when I go back for The Women Tell All!
Possessionista: If you were the Bachelor and had to choose solely on fashion, who would you give the rose to?
JB: Only my favorite person, Lindzi C. I’m somewhat biased tho! I also think Casey S. has a great style. I think we will be seeing more of her in upcoming episodes.
Possessionista: Who were the worst dressed Bachelorettes?
JB: Not going there! I am not one to talk negative about people. I think anyone has their right to rock their own style. But I always have my opinions on what I like and what is considered GREAT FASHION.
