I think it's pretty common to romanticize your high school relationship.
To hear me retell my first boyfriend, you'd probably think we were the inspiration for Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. Though we didn't end in a wedding and vampire human hybrid - we didn't even make it to prom - the relationship still remains more Shakeperean in my mind than the mere short story it really was.
Like Max in this week's Happy Endings, I may have taken some poetic license - in truth, he dumped me to make out with girls under the bleachers of his new school - in the depiction of our final days. But even so, I would probably take issue if one of my closest friends started dating my ex.
And though home perms aren't in my repertoire, I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't earn her a permanent spot on all the local diet camp mailing lists.
True story.
