Emily Maynard Fashion: Exclusive Possessionista Interview

She looks like Barbie with the soul of Mother Teresa. But what you don’t know about Emily Maynard is that she tailors her Forever 21 and has one of the greatest senses of humor you’ll ever encounter.

The now-less-blonde fiancee of Brad Womack finally spilled all her off screen fashion and beauty secrets to the Possessionista.

And, no, I won’t ask her about her perfume.

Possessionista: What are some of your splurges? What is your shopping guilty pleasure.
Emily Maynard: A few years ago (aka before I had a kid) I probably would have said pretty much everything. I’m probably too good at justifying anything from clothes to cheeseburgers, but these days the only things I really splurge on are shoes, makeup and skincare. Every once in a blue moon I’ll see a classic pocketbook that I know I’ll be able to carry well in to my 60′s and have to have it. Again, I’m really good at justifying a must have!

Possessionista: Where are your favorite places to shop?
Emily Maynard: I refuse to spend a lot of money on clothes that I know I won’t wear for very much so I do a lot of shopping at Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, and surprisingly Target. For makeup I love Sephora and Neimans. If I’m going somewhere really special there is a store in Charlotte called Capitol that I LOVE, but can only afford to go in and dream.  Also, my friends make fun of me because I’m a QVC addict. I am on auto ship for my WEN shampoo/conditioner!
Possessionista: We have to talk beauty. What’s your skincare regimen? Facewash, lotion, etc?
Emily Maynard: I have the most sensitive skin in the world. Seriously, if I even dream abouct going to bed without washing my face I break out.  Every morning I wash with Obagi Gentle cleanser,  Obagi C-Exfoliating Day Lotion, and then Elta SPF.  At night I wash my face with Murad Time Release Acne Cleanser, , Retin- A, and Sothys Revitalizing Serum.

Possessionista: I want Emily Maynard waves. How do I do it? Rollers or curling iron?
Emily Maynard: I think my first and last impression on a lot of the other girls in the house were my GIANT velcro rollers. I go section by section starting at the top and curl it with a curling iron and then clip a velcro roller in it. You roll everything away from your face and put the rollers on the side vertical. I leave them in until I’m ready to walk out the door and then spray with hairspray. My splurge is Aveda but for everyday I use Tresemme 24 Hour Body Hairspray. Or do what I, and every other girl in the house did before rose ceremonies and have Michelle Money do it!

Possessionista: What is the one thing you hate about your looks?
Emily Maynard: Oh Lordy where do I begin? I think as women we’re all insecure about some aspect of our looks, not to mention having to watch yourself on a HD tv every Monday. I’m super self conscious about my skin and then out of insecurity I put on too much makeup sometimes, which adds about ten years. Its a vicious cycle!

Possessionista: How many pairs of shoes do you own? Which are your favorite?
Emily Maynard: Just like every other woman I know, I probably own way too many. But my favorites are probably my Louboutin round toe mary janes, a pair of strappy sparkly Louboutins, and the studded black studded Miu Mius aka my “going on The Bachelor therefore will be saving a lot of money gift” to myself.

Possessionista: What are your favorite jeans?
Emily Maynard: Rag & Bone and BDG Cigarette Ankle jeans from Urban Outfitters.

Possessionista: Okay, it’s a fat day. What are you wearing?
Emily Maynard: I wear workout clothes even if I don’t work out because its one step up from pajamas as far as effort, but everyone still thinks I’m motivated! If I’m having a really fat day I’ll put on a sundress or leggings and a giant sweater with a long scarf.

Possessionsta: Give me some tips for how to make Forever 21 look like couture?
Emily Maynard: As you’ve seen all season, I love me some Forever 21! I think the main thing you have to remember is not to do anything too trendy and keep your accessories simple and classic. I’ve also learned that a good alteration can make almost anything look couture if it fits you perfectly.

Possessionista: You’re shopping for accessories. What can’t you resist? Earrings, necklace or bracelets?
Emily Maynard: Anyone who has ever met me knows I can’t leave the house without my arm full of bracelets. There is a jewelry company based  in Charlotte called Towne & Reese that I absolutely LOVE because its very affordable but everyone thinks its from Neimans.

QHandmade 065 Necklace, $130

Possessionista: What are you obsessing over right now?

Emily Maynard: I have a necklace from Q Handmade that I haven’t taken off since it came in the mail! Its so simple but goes with everything and has so much meaning behind it. People are always asking me where I got it.

Possessionista: Worst fashion mistake?
Emily Maynard: Where do I begin?!  Most recently bleach blonde hair that looks yellow in some lighting, for sure. For a long time I loved boxey dresses, but then saw a picture of myself wearing one and realized I looked pregnant. I’m sure I make many other fashion mistakes on a daily basis that my friends are too embarrassed to tell me.

Possessionista: What’s your most prized possession?
Emily Maynard: As far as fashion it would definitely be my bracelets. Every year for Christmas since I was little my parents gave me a ring and a few years ago my mom had them all put on a charm bracelet for me. My Cartier Love bracelets mean the absolute world to me and I haven’t taken either off since it was given to me. The whole idea behind the bracelet is so sweet and romantic. Basically every bracelet I wear, whether it be from Cartier or a street vendor in Key West, has so many good memories and I can’t wait to pass them down to my daughter one day.

Possessionista: What is the one piece of style advice you’ll pass onto your daughter.
Emily Maynard: Always be a lady.

  1. Thanks for the interview! Her sweet personality makes her even prettier, IMHO. I have a feeling that she's going to be talked about for quite some time! Any scoop on how she and Brad are doing?

  2. I am obsessed with your blog & Em's fashion. LOVE this–great surprise this morning! =) Thanks so much!

  3. Anonymous says:

Great interview. She is so sweet. She needs to blog herself. So according to People magazine, Brad gave her those Cartier bracelets, which she states mean the world to her. :)

  4. Enjoyed reading the interview, her personality really comes through in her classic, lady like personality. She is a great roll model for her daughter.

  5. Reading this and drinking my coffee was the best way to wake up this morning! Thanks!

  6. LOVE her! She is so beautiful and classy. It's such a treat to hear her beauty secrets :) Thanks so much for the interview!

Great interview. Thanks so much! Emily is so beautiful inside and out!

  10. Anonymous says:

she sounds so fake – all her louboutin shoes she claims to have to save up to buy? please…that girl doesn't have to save for anything and i hardly think she gives a second thought to dropping a grand on shoes. just be honest emily – you got knocked up by multi millionaire, and now you are set for life. Why don't you go to college and get a degree to set a good example for your daughter – the only difference between Emily and any other unmarried knocked up TEENAGER (that's what she was) is that she has money. besides that fact they are all the same. GET a REAL Job, go to college, and make something out of yourself, so you can say you did it, not it was GIVEN to me.

  11. Anonymous says:

wow the previous poster is obviously very jealous, if they think emily is so terrible then why did they take the time to read the interview??? Emily has a real job,and how do you know she didnt go to college? I for one think she sets a great example for her daughter and looks like a great mom. hmmm can you say jealous stalker? Previous poster maybe you are the one that needs to get a real job and get your fat butt off your computer and put away the donuts your probably just very angry because you will never be as pretty and classy as emily

  12. Anonymous says:

Keep the negative comments to yourself! As your mother maybe did if not should have taught you “if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all!”

  13. I recently discovered your blog and am obsessed! Loved this interview and all of the scoop on Emily's fashion you've revealed recently :)

  14. Silvina says:

I've always been obsessed with your blog, but now that you have so many Emily outfits and this interview from her – I can't get enough of the Possensionista!!

  15. Thanks for the interview, Emily! Your daughter was adorable too, by the way! :)

  16. mkvsheldon says:

Great interview enjoyed it! What a wonderful lady such class.
Glad that you are such a great example for your daughter! Can't keep the world happy so don't even try. Stay in your bubble when the darts come!

TOO BAD YOU DIDN'T ASK HER ABOUT RICKY'S REAL FIANCEE CORI…EMILY WAS JUT A SIDE FLING, MERELY A ONE NIGHT STAND THAT BROKE UP A RELATIONSHIP AND AN ENGAGEMENT.

  19. Anonymous says:

If it was a one night thing than why were they together four years and lived together????? so many jealous people out there if you dont like emily then why are you reading about her fashion?? Obviously the haters have nothing better to do than obsess and read about who they dont like. Go get a life haters and realize maybe its not emily you should be judging but yourself.

loved the interview Possessionista! We Love Emily!

whats with the posts of negativity? Really? Why did you even bother coming the the site? Don't you have a life of your own to quit neglecting by obsessing over Emily's?

  22. I don't get it, why are some of these people getting too personal? Obviously, this interview had nothing to do with all of that so keep the negativity to yourself.

Anyway, great interview! Thanks Possessionista! :D I love Emily for her honesty and she's such a classy woman. Beautiful in & out! I hope little Ricki realizes how lucky she is to have such a caring and wonderful mother.

Now, I'm missing my mom!! :D

  23. Anonymous says:

lol. I've never read such b/s in my life. Little Miss Rich and her Cartier and $985.00 shoes. The Hendrick money has paid for all of it.

Gosh I love this woman! She has totally become my style icon as well as one of my biggest idols. Love you Emily! And Possessionista I LOVE your blog. <3

  29. FACT – Emily got knocked up at 18 or 19 (teenager) unmarried

FACT – never went to college

FACT – lives off of her parents money and her daughters trust fund

FACT – went on TV to find a man – disgusting

    FACT – has fake teeth

    FACT – has fake boobs

how is she a role model or mother teresa? i mean yes she is very beautiful, but besides her beauty, there is nothing extraordinary about this girl. she hasn't done anything in her life besides raise a child with A LOT of financial help from others. I mean there are single mothers out there that struggle everyday, going to school, working, and being a parent. She is not a saint people….but no one can see past her pretty looks.

  30. Yay!!!! Thanks to both of you for this interview! I can't enough of Emily, she is so refreshing!!! She seems like she'd be an awesome person to know. Love love love her!

  31. Love her! She is the best!

  32. In reply to Brandy: You come off looking super jealous!! Emily's a wonderful mother who loves God, & loves her daughter. She never spoke unkindly about anyone on the show and is a super class act which is more than you can say about the majority of the female population. For the record, she has never proclaimed herself to be a saint but she sure is a breath of fresh air in the public spotlight compared to other reality stars/celebrities. I wish she had her own show so we could see more of her. God bless you Emily and your family!!!

  33. Anonymous says:

fake teeth and boobs? who cares! they look great and MANY MANY people have fake boobs. Failing to see whats so horrible about that?? Didnt go to college? Who cares? lots of sucessful people didnt go to college she still has a great job. Why is there so many jealous people posting i dont get it. Take your negative selves out of here!

  34. Anonymous says:

why do i feel like cori is posting all these negative comments??? hmmm

  35. what job? she worked a few times as an event planner for the hospital. I am not jealous of her and I don't think badly of her, I just don't understand why people are putting her up on this pedestal. She is not anything special.

  36. Anonymous says:

    amber you said everything perfectly

and Brandy if you werent jealous you wouldnt put FACT emily has fake boobs. Who cares?? Whats wrong with fake boobs? Why put that on blast? tons of women have them including myself. Nothing is wrong with wanting to improve your looks. And if i had the money i would love to be a stay at home mom. Nothings wrong with that! Im sure her daughter loves it! Brandy are you sure your name isnt CORI? just saying…

NEGATIVE people stop posting and trying to bring other people down. This interview was for meant to be positive for those of us that like Emily style so we can learn more about it. Not an opportunity for you to bash her. If you dont like here than dont post about her because no one wants to hear it!

  37. Anonymous says:

I love emily's style thanks for doing the interview it was great to learn more about it :)

  38. Anonymous says:

how does Brandy know these facts? A little stalkerish…

  39. Wow…the jealous haters have really come crawling out of the woodwork. are you sure we're discussing Emily Maynard and not Kate Gosselin here??? Now back to the important topic at hand…those Mary Jane Louboutins. Those are my absolute favorites and I also would love the scoop on them.

  40. Anonymous says:

Yes please Dana, Mary Jane Louboutins are sooo cute info on them please :)

  41. Anonymous says:

Great interview, it was fun to hear about her skin care routine and fashion tips. I started obagi nuderm after having skin problems and LOVE it. It has transformed my face, nice to hear she uses it too!

    Thanks Dana, you rock!

  42. mkvsheldon says:

To the FEW that have posted on here just to bash Emily, IT'S NOT WORKING! IF we (and we did) fell in love with Emily, YOU and your nonsense is NOT GOING TO CHANGE OUR OPINION OF HER!!! So go away because Emily is not, we LOVE her. But we can do without you and your type. With the same amount of money you couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Emily! Reason being it's more than her clothing and beauty that we love. It's what Brad fell for, EVERYTHING ABOUT HER.

  43. dana! love your interviews :) “okay it's a fat day, what are you wearing?” lol love it! keep up the good work as always !!! ok seriously- are you going to ask her about her perfume yet? lol :)

  44. Anonymous says:

Thanks so much for the interview! Love the necklace with 'Brad' and “ricki” on it! Love your blog and love Emily!

  45. Anonymous says:

I adore Emily! She is a breath of fresh air in the ugly world of media, and I for one am always happy to read about her! And, btw, she's a mom … that's her “real job.”

  46. Absolutely amazing! Such poise and grace, she is like the friend every girl wishes they had! Love me some Emily!! I wish she had her own show!

  47. Christine says:

Emily is my favorite. No one has ever caught my attention as much as her. Please, keep more Emily coming!

  48. Anonymous says:

Finally!! Thank you for this interview!! Been waiting for it! Will you have one from chantal too?!

  49. Anonymous says:

She has fantastic style–I'm inspired by how she mixes high end and Forever21 pieces. Thanks for the interview!

  50. Anonymous says:

Has anybody seen a picture of Cori? No wonder she's jealous cause it's obvious she's been beaten with the ugly stick… beat hard too.

As far as Emily goes, people don't love her because of her looks, people love her in spite of her looks. 75% of the girls on the show were beautiful, but what made Emily stand out? She was genuine and not stuck-up and a sweet, kind soul.

It is obvious Emily loves her daughter more than life and you can bash her all you want but YOU'RE an idiot, period.

  51. Anonymous says:

I love Emily! Awesome interview Dana! After readng this, I love her more. Brad is very lucky to have a beautiful (inside and out) woman by his side. Love Emily's style … need to get me some velcro rollers ASAP lol

I think she's an absolute doll. Why else would all of us ladies be so intrigued by her? There will always be some thorns AKA the hatred amongst the roses. Great job Dana! Team Emily!!

  54. Thank you for the interview with Emily! I and many others love hearing her tips/advice etc!
    We love you EMILY!

  55. Anonymous says:

I love this interview, so fun! Also the negativity needs to go! There is no need to put others down and try to find flaws in others! We should be an encouragement to others all the time! Emily, there will always be negativity, in everyones life, rather they are in the spotlight or not, but you handle it well! Keep holding that gorgeous head high, keep that huge heart of yours growing, keep being classy and respectable, you are a mom and I'm sure a great one..and its true that is a real and most important job anyone can have! However, you can't please everyone! Be yourself girls! And keep this amazing blog going..I'm hooked!

  56. I didn't think I could like Emily anymore than I already did. . .and then I read this interview. Can I be Emily when I grow up? She's a good reminder to all of us that we need to always act like a lady- love that!

  57. Anonymous says:

you guys are all pathetic. i can't wait until emily breaks up with brad and ends up with her own reality show, she will be the next kate gosselin minus the eight kids. she is just as selfish and fame hungry as anyone who appears on a REALITY SHOW to find love.

  58. Anonymous says:

My husband & I both absolutly became Emily fans the minute she met Brad. There was just something so gracious about her. As each episode showed, it became obvious that there was something about her that kept drawing Brad to her. Like someone else said, she never badmouthed anyone else on the show, & LWys listened to others sob stories & tried to comfort. That is a sign of a very loving & caring person. We hoped Brad would pick her, & yeah we were right. Speaking from experience it is hard to find a man that will love & take care of another man's children, but I found one myself & 37 years we are still together. Brad has committed to little Ricki, & I think like my husband, that Brad will be a terriffic father to little Ricki. God bless the 3 of you, & hope you have a wonderful life together. Also like another post, I WAS taught that if you can't say anything good about a person, then don't say anything at all. Some of the best advice my mother ever gave me. Sounds like jealously then willing to bet it is jealousy, so they need to keep thier negative thoughts to themselves & leave this soon to be family alone.

  59. Yay! Awesome interview! Thanks for posting this-I know that I've been curious (along with many other readers) what some of her “secrets” are. She seems super sweet! Some of the posters on the other hand seem to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. It's a fashion blog people. Get. a. grip.

  60. Dana- you are the best ever! the only blog i read! You are so amazing!
Haters- to be quitee honest… i want fake teeth, i even tried to find the scoop on hers, because i want me some pearly whites as beautiful as hers! who cares… Emily has the hardest job of all, she is a momma. So she fell in love with a wealthy man, you cant choose who you are in love with!
So many of us fell in Love with Emily because of her class and grace, which made us look at her clothing. She is gorgeous, but she won America over by her good spirit. If you watch the whole season over, she NEVER says a bad word about ANYONE! I have never seen anyone else do that on any other bachelor in the past!
Emily- you are a beautiful gorgeous woman, and the reason why we all are crazy fans for you is because you seem to have an even more gorgeous soul! keep shinning! Cream rises to the top! Bless you and GOD bless Dana for her amazing work. you rock!

  61. Anonymous says:

I think you are all equally ridiculous — Emily lovers and Emily haters.
Those of you who talk about Emily being beautiful inside and out, as well as those who are bashing her — what do you know anyway? All you know is Emily, the TV character who is presented in the media the certain way and/or that is written about in tabloids the certain way. Period.
The only FACT is that she is a pretty girl and that camera loves her. Everything else, good or bad, may or may not be true, and the truth is we will never know. And I, for one, couldn't care less.
As for the purpose of this blog: like some of the stuff she wore (mostly her accessories), but prefer Michele Money's style. Best dressed Bachelor(ette) girl so far for me — Gia.
    Cheers!

  62. thanks for the interview posessionista.

i'm asian and i love her style and the super cute finds she talks about as well as what she wore on the show.

    keep interviewing her!!!

Oh I love the interview with Emily! Thank you Ms. Dana. I'm not really into fashion but I read your blog from time to time.

Maybe the poster above me doesn't know that Emily's family are moneyed too. She's a coal miner's daughter but they owned the coal mine (as some say in FORT who know her).

Thanks for this interview which provides another peek into the beautiful soul of Emily. That she is not a saint – she's never claimed readiness for beatification – does not deprive her of characteristics worthy of emulation. May she continue to inspire others by her graciousness. She is an exemplary mother, the center of Brad's heart, and soon will be the queen of his home.

Thanks for posting the interview and thanks to Emily for sharing.

I do not understand why so many know how much money Em has, where she gets it or care how she spends it. Some people are more fortunate than others but that's life. I am sure that being a single Mom has not always been easy but she seems to be a great Mom and this is what counts!

Enjoyed pulling for Em and Brad on the “Bachelor” and it is really none of my business but wish they could be comfortable in sharing an occasional update.

I'd like to know more about her skincare regimen. Her skin might be her biggest insecurity, but it looks FLAWLESS to me. Is the retin A she uses prescription or in a product. I love that she has the money to live like most of us wish we could–I agree that she probably doesn't have to save for much and I ENVY that.

  72. Anonymous says:

I want to hear more about wen hair care. It claims that a lot of stars use it but is the hype true? Does it take a while to get used to.

  73. Anonymous says:

I won't deny that Emily had a nice fashion sense. I liked quite a few of the outfits and definitely her bracelets. I wasn't a fan of all the make up though, that's too much of a cake face to me. I really don't get why people like her so much. I found her dull on the show. I really like Chantal O, I thought she was gorgeous and natural, and just had so much more personality. Nothing bad against Emily, that's just my opinion, I'm sure she's a very nice person :)

What a bunch of idiots. Emily Maynard is the most fake “baby talking” idiot. She is a simpering fool and is pathetic. The Bachelor/Bachelorette series is the WORST of reality TV with the most false and self-centered narcissists. Follow them and you will become brain dead as well.

  82. Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
