Between a dog who serves himself directly from our plates and a husband who hasn't been home for dinner since, well, ever, my kids and I have resorted to squeezing a third chair around the island and making family dinners an intimate - and messy - affair.
The first thing Jennifer, the home aesthetician did (after taking a xanax) was talk to me about kitchen tables. Our kitchen had a perfect "nook" for a table, which we'd been using as an office.
Seriously.
So she went on a mission to incorporate ice blue (one of our primary colors) and give me an eating area that would fit into the space, add some color to our seriously brown kitchen while staying with my request to incorporate traditional and contemporary components.
I fell in love with the first chair she showed me (see below) and after that, we just narrowed down the tables.
