Spring Fever

Right around this time of the year, during the fourth grade I had a mad crush on a cute, freckly boy named Jason Neal.

Boy, I had it bad. The only problem was he was going out with my best friend Joanne Feder.

I really hated him for it. So I passed him a note. Telling him just how much I hated him.

He was ugly. And I hated him.

He smelled funny. And I hated him.

He was a loser. And I hated him.

Or at least that's what I wanted him (and Joanne) to think.

But then Mrs. Herrerra, my fourth grade teacher intercepted that note and she read it out loud. To the whole class.

And after she finished my 9-year-old diatribe about why Jason Neal was the smelliest, ugliest, yuckiest boy in all of Harter Elementary school, she taught me and all my classmates an invaluable lesson.

Spring is the time for love.

And once again, I've got it bad. Only this time it's not for a freckly, small-town boy dating my best friend.

It's for a jeweler in Australia named Divinerose whose floral and vintage costume jewelry is like the love child of Michal Negrin and Tarina Tarantino.

So consider this my love note to Divinerose.

And now I'm off to look for Jason Neal on Facebook.
