Make a statement

Dana,

I am always very cautious when picking out costume jewelry. I am never sure if it looks cool, or just tacky. I am going to a bridal shower on March 7 and am not sure what to wear. I was thinking of just doing a black pants suit and white button down, but wanted to dress it up with a funky necklace. Thoughts?

So, here’s the thing about costume jewelry. The key is the word costume.

On Halloween, when you dress up as a sexy nurse or a sexy cat or a sexy superhero, do people really think you’re a nurse or a cat or a superhero?

No!

Why? Because it’s a costume.

El duh.

Same goes for costume jewelry. The idea is not to try and convince people that it’s something it’s not. Don’t go for a demure pair of diamond studs – get GIANT ones. Don’t get a tiny little diamond necklace – get a freaking 100-million-carat statement necklace.

Go all out. The statement necklace is still so-very-in-the-moment (ahem, Eva Mendes at the Golden Globes) and with a sexy black suit and white shirt –unbutton one more button than you normally would. Trust me. — you have the perfect palette to showcase any one of these beauties.

So pretend it’s Halloween. Wear your costume. Make a statement.

Just 86 the super hero cape.

At least until the actual wedding.

  1. I love your picks (I’ve been eying that Topshop necklace for about a week now)! Necklaces are a current obsession.

I recently found a ridiculously OTT, completely blinged out necklace at–wait for it–a costume shop. Appropriate, huh?
