Groundhog Day

Today is Groundhog Day, so in honor of THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE, I decided to talk about something I have already talked about: The Chan Luu wrap bracelet.

About eight years ago, my best (high school) friend Alyssa and I started making jewelry. We taught ourself a very elementary version of wire wrapping, and through countless hours of beading and blisters, we made ourselves a fun little collection, and spent the summer selling our wares at various craft shows throughout Chicago.
Two weddings, two children and two moves later, Alyssa and I quit the “business,” but I still occasionally pick up my old beading box and try my hand at a fun bracelet or necklace.
So, I figured, why not give this wrap bracelet a shot?
I spent the morning at one of my favorite local spots – Chelsea’s Beads - in Highland Park. A woman named Nancy helped to walk me through the process, and now, $34.00 later, I’m going to try to make my own version of the Chan Luu wrap bracelet.
If you’re not crafty, or not motivated, it turns out Nancy actually makes a killer version of the bracelet, herself.
She charges around $100, depending on the stone and length. So, if you’re in love with the look, and not so in love with the price of the original, you can order one from Nancy via email.
Tell her you read about her on Recessionista.
